‘Taking Lance’ Finale and Other Updates

Hello, all.

My apologies in advance for the annoying GIF at the bottom. I saw it and had to add it. 🙂

Thank you to everyone who has already bought and read Just Friends. I didn’t think that story would ever be published but I’m glad it’s finally out in the world. Check out two awesome reviews I got for it – On Top Down Under Book Reviews and Cocky Reviews. Note that the one at Cocky Reviews is very NSFW. Don’t click the link if you don’t want to see very graphic sexual situations and nekkid men. 😉

The past few weeks have been a little crazy for me but I wanted to give you guys a few updates.

Upcoming/Works-in-Progress –

Finding Alex (Taking Lance #4) – Publishing date TBD -I typed a draft for this post a few days ago. It said that I’d had almost 22,000 words written and that I was hoping to finish the first draft in the coming weeks. Since then I’ve written over 16,000 more words and officially typed THE END. At the moment the story is over 38,000 words. That will be cut drastically before it’s published.

Those of you who’ve followed me for any length of time know my issues with this story. It’s the finale to my very first series. I started and stopped it so many times in the past two and a half years I didn’t think I’d ever finish it. I don’t know if you can know the relief I’m feeling right now because there’s an official light at the end of the tunnel.

This is the final story in the series and I have no plans to ever add to it after this one is published. I could sit here and write about Rick and Lance all day long but I know when it’s time to say goodbye. Saying goodbye to these guys will sadden me but it will also be good for me. Without them I wouldn’t be publishing right now.

Also, there will be Rick and Lance’s wedding (untitled) quickie that I’ve decided to publish before Finding Alex. I’ve written around 2,000 words in that and I will likely stop it at around 5,000 or 6,000. Finding Alex will be published shortly after. The wedding also takes place in ‘Alex’ but from Dean’s point of view. It’s Dean’s instead of Alex’s because this is the chapter when Dean comes to terms with some pretty important things.

Something that could’ve been disastrous – I was a third of the way through the final chapter of Finding Alex when I hit save and the blue screen of death came up on my laptop. When it came back on I was unable to open the manuscript. I tried everything but no matter what I did it wouldn’t open and I was told that the file was corrupt. Thankfully I’m very anal about emailing my stories to myself at the end of each day, even if I so much as change only one line. I’d done this the night before so I didn’t lose the entire manuscript. I did, however, lose everything I had typed that morning in the final chapter and a few track changes I’d made. I couldn’t even be frustrated over having to recreate what I’d lost because I was so grateful that the entire story wasn’t gone. And with all I’ve gone through to get this story written it’s doubtful I would’ve even attempted to recreate it all. I believe I would’ve thrown my hands up, published Rick and Lance’s wedding, then walked away. I would’ve just added Alex and Dean’s story to that one but without as much detail. Thankfully it didn’t come down to that.

Oh, I can’t wait to reveal the cover. I think it’s my favorite in the series.

What you’ll need to know about Finding Alex before it’s published –

  • Together Alex and Dean bring others into their bed often. If you’ve read Saving Travis and Trusting Lance you already know this. There’s no jealousy or silliness as a result of it. It’s just part of their relationship.
  • Because they were already an established couple in the above-mentioned stories, I had to go back in time in order to tell their individual backstories. I hate flashbacks in books. I made a point in hopefully writing these where they aren’t annoying. I really hope so anyway.
  • All the others in the series could be read as standalones. I don’t think that will be the case with Finding Alex. In order to understand pretty much everything in the book you’ll have to know what let up to it.
  • Loose ends from the rest of the series will be tied up. Rick, Lance, Marc, Travis… everything.

More on Rick and Lance below.

Thank you On Top Down Under Book Reviews for allowing me to ‘borrow’ some of your visuals of my Taking Lance guys.

#4 in the Willy the Kinky Elf world – Over 22,000 words written. I plan to stop between 25,000 and 30,000. It’s still untitled. Well, publicly anyway. I have a working title but I won’t announce it until closer to release date. This is Barry’s story. Those who read Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human and Evan the Virgin Reindeer & His Sexy Buck will remember Barry as Blake Simpson’s younger brother and Evan Vickers’ longtime best friend. I didn’t plan to have two “B” names back to back but I didn’t expect the amount of emails I’ve received asking me to write Barry’s story STAT either. 😀 His love interest is a character that was mentioned in passing during a specific Peppermint Whiskey episode in ‘Blake’. I hope you guys like it when it comes out in early November. I will likely put it up for pre-order in early October like I did Blake’s story. I might even do it a few weeks earlier than that. It depends on how I’m feeling about the story. I’ll update more throughout the year.

If you’ve read the ‘Willy’ series you know there’s a theme in all of them. For ‘Willy’ it was love is love, regardless of who you are. With ‘Evan’ it was about adult bullying. In ‘Blake’ it was about addiction, redemption, and forgiveness. With ‘Barry’ the theme is domestic violence. While I won’t be making light of the subject in any way – just like I didn’t make light of adult bullying and addiction in the last two – I won’t be giving the reader page after page of details that take away from the lightness of the series as a whole. I’m doing my best to write it in a sensitive manner. Note that a majority of the domestic violence takes place off-page in the recent past. There are a couple of instances in the here and now but I’ll be leaving a lot to the reader’s imagination as far as what the character went through before.

That’s it as far as upcoming releases. I could go on about a few more but I won’t do that until I know for sure they’ll be published in the coming months.

I’m almost always writing something. The past couple of months I’ve tried to only focus on stories in the Taking Lance and the Willy the Kinky Elf worlds. Once I get Barry’s story complete I’ll be able to concentrate on new stories. The ideas are always there – and I have dozens of unfinished stories hidden away – but these two have to be knocked out before I can really do right by others. One down, one to go. 🙂

My 3rd publishing anniversary –

On April 5th I’ll be celebrating my 3rd publishing anniversary. I’m not sure what I’m going to do to celebrate yet. I really wish I had time to get Rick and Lance’s wedding story ready to go – that would be perfect considering they’re the guys who started it all for me – but I honestly don’t see that happening. Between traveling and an ongoing serious illness in my family time has simply gotten away from me.

I will, however, be publishing a quick excerpt from the wedding story. It’s already been written. I just need to add some finishing touches. This particular excerpt reads as its own mini-story so it doesn’t leave you hanging. Well, it might leave one of the characters hanging (*snort*) but not the readers. The excerpt will be added to my 3rd anniversary post on April 5th. You can expect to see the same scene in Rick and Lance’s wedding story later.

If I’m feeling good about it I may also add a quick excerpt from Finding Alex. I need to stress – and I’ll do it again in the actual post – that these excerpts will be unedited and will likely change slightly before the stories are actually published.

If you guys have any suggestions on what else to do to celebrate my 3rd, I’m all ears. I’m always open to doing a giveaway and will do one if the interest is there.

That’s about it for now. I hope everybody is doing well.

Until next time,

Thank You!

willy-series-best-sellers-are-11252016

Thank you to everyone who helped make all three books in the ‘Willy the Kinky Elf’ world bestsellers on ARe over the Thanksgiving weekend. I’m always happy when one of my books gets that little bestseller star next to it at All Romance. For all three to get them at once means more than you all can know. Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer was originally published two years ago. Evan the Virgin Reindeer & His Sexy Buck was published one year ago. Both of those stories have done extremely well since Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human was published. Don’t get me wrong, the series has been wonderful for me and has developed quite a following since the first one was published. However, this past weekend blew me away. There are no words for what it means to me that you guys have embraced my crazy holiday world. I don’t know if you can imagine how it felt to see all three books at the top of the gay erotica homepage on ARe as bestsellers in that category. Of five books at the top of that page three were mine. I’m thrilled and thankful to every single person who has purchased the books.

If you celebrated Thanksgiving I hope you enjoyed your time with your family and friends. For the first time ever during a major holiday I was out of town. It was an exhausting trip but I really enjoyed my time away. I’m trying to play catch-up now.

I hope you’re all doing well. Thank you all again for making my Willy series a bestseller. I’m still pretty stoked over it. 😉

Until next time,

Thanksgiving, Football, Sale, This & That

I’ve gotten quite a few new followers – here and on social media – over the past few weeks so I want to say thank you! I’m not very good about typing blog posts, though I do try. 2016 has been a difficult year for me in the real world for a variety of reasons and that keeps me away from here as well. I won’t bore you with the details but reading my last blog post will give you a bit of an idea of what’s been going on in my life. I will say that 2017 can’t get here soon enough.

Hey, I published a book. 🙂  I know, I know, I annoyed the heck out of you guys about Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human and then kinda disappeared on release day. While I already suck at self-promo, I do have a couple of valid excuses for not pushing the story more when it was officially released. There was a medical emergency with my mother Halloween night and then other issues arose in the following days that I’m still dealing with. I kinda feel like I’m in a fog, to be honest. I’ll be fine, but writing and reading – two things I’ve always done – have taken a backseat. I’m hoping to get back on track with everything soon.

Thanksgiving officially starts the holiday season in America. Normally I do a lot of baking and the family converges on my home. This, after going to the in-laws for lunch earlier in the day. This year will be different. My husband is working out of town so I won’t be doing the family thing at my house. My youngest has to work that day, which sucks, but we celebrated early with a nice lunch a few days ago. I’ll be traveling to see my husband and my two older sons for the holiday. If you all celebrate I hope you have a wonderful day with your family and friends.

iron_bowl_logoThe Saturday after is a big football game for my ‘Bama boys. We play our biggest rival, Auburn, and that’s always a nail biter. Those who’ve been with me from the beginning know I’m a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan and this is my favorite time of the year. You’ve never experienced anything until you’ve experienced my state during the Alabama/Auburn game, also known as the Iron Bowl. We don’t watch college football in the South. We live college football in the South. The entire season is always a big event. It’s a good excuse to eat a bunch of junk food and have a few adult beverages. 🙂 My drink of choice for this season is 1 part Creme de Banana, 1 part Malibu Rum, and 1 part pineapple juice. I found the recipe on Pinterest and I love it. I’m not a big drinker but I do have at least one of these during every Alabama game. Oh, and Alabama is the #1 team in the country right now. 🙂

noh8The election –

I could devote an entire blog post on nothing but current events in America but I’m not. There are 3 subjects I refuse to discuss publicly and politics is one of them. If you’ve followed me at all you know my thoughts on equality. Hell, I write mostly gay romance. Since the election I’ve been dragged into conversations I didn’t want to be part of and even accused of being part of the final outcome simply because I live in the deep South. I’ve done blog posts in the past about the silly southern stereotype so I won’t do that here now. I will say this – not all southerners are racist and homophobic. I cheered right along with the rest of the world when same sex marriage became legal in the United States and typed a long blog post about it on my old Blogger site. I’m just as concerned as everyone else is over the outcome of the presidential election. That’s all I’ll say about that.

What else?

Congrats to Dre, who won the giveaway at On Top Down Under Book Reviews last month. Dre was one of my very first readers so I was thrilled that she was chosen as the winner. Congrats again to On Top Down Under on 4 years!

willy-butt-head-magnetI have a couple of magnets (pictured) from that giveaway left over that I need to figure out what to do with. I was thinking maybe doing my own giveaway here that will also be pushed on Twitter and Facebook. What do you guys think? Granted, some might not want a magnet of an elf mooning the camera, but those who’ve read the series just might. I have one on my fridge. 😉 When I was ordering swag for that giveaway my best friend insisted I create something with a Willy butt head quote. If you’ve read the books you know that Willy calls people (mostly Santa Claus) that often. I had a blast creating it and I’ve been asked by some readers about making them available. So, why not a giveaway? I’ll decide the particulars and update on here when I get back in town next week.

I can’t end this without thanking everyone for reading Blake and Seth’s story. I know the season is still young but I’m in awe over the amount of pre-orders the story had and how many people have already read it. Not just ‘Blake’ but the first two in the series as well. When I wrote Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer I never dreamed that anyone would like my warped version of the North Pole. There are no words for how thrilled I am each time I get a message from someone saying they’ll never look at Santa and his elves and reindeer the same again. The true story of the North Pole had to be told by someone, right? 😀

To celebrate the official start of the holiday season, all three of the ‘Willy’ books will be half-price on Wednesday (the 23rd) and Thanksgiving day (the 24th) at All Romance Ebooks (ARe). The sale price will only be at ARe, not the other e-tailers. The links will not show the sale until Wednesday but I’ll be traveling that day and likely unable to promote at all until much later that evening or the next day.

That’s enough for now. I hope everyone is doing well and thank you also for the kind words I received after my last blog post. I have the best fans in the world.

Until next time,

~Candi

Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human

As I’ve already said all over the place, this story never would’ve happened had a fellow author not started a little campaign for me to write it after he read Evan the Virgin Reindeer & His Sexy Buck (‘Willy’ #2) and fell for the bad guy. I know, right? 🙂 Blake Simpson was a major jerk in that story and was never supposed to be seen or heard from again. If you’re interested in seeing what was said that pushed me to give Blake his story, you can find the Goodreads review here. The thought was put in my head and it didn’t take long before I had the entire story, from start to finish, planned out. I knew what I wanted to say. I knew who all the players would be and even the so-called drama of the story. Heck, I even knew exactly how Blake would atone for all his bad actions. Easy enough, right? Well, not quite.

That’s what I’ve shared publicly about the making of the 3rd installment in Willy’s world.

Here’s what I haven’t…

aaarghhI wrote 10,000 words of this story without missing a beat. This was back in December of last year, I think? Everything was flowing smoothly until one day it just wasn’t. I’d had to change one of the characters 3 times. It was a back and forth thing that had me throwing my hands up on the story for a little while. Oh, I was still going to write it. No way was I not going to. But those 10,000 or so words sat on my laptop for around 7 months. I’d go into the manuscript, get frustrated, then get out of it again. I felt pressure because here it was July and I was only a few short months from publishing a story that was only a third or fourth of the way done. I wasn’t blank (re: writer’s block), but it just wasn’t coming together for me. Nothing I did would change that. I said above that I knew exactly what the story would be about from start to finish. That didn’t change. I knew what I wanted to say but I just couldn’t get the words on the manuscript to come together.

addictionA few months ago I wrote a blog post that briefly covered addiction in the ‘personal’ section of the post. I’d stated that I’d already lost one close family member to it and that I was very close to losing another. I lost that person in late July – a little over a month after that post was published. And strangely, what is Blake’s story about? Addiction. That wasn’t planned, by the way. When I wrote Blake’s character in ‘Evan’ I added his addictions as the cause of his actions because my original version of him was not redeemable in any way. I’m not making light of what caused him to do what he did. What I’m saying is that the original Blake Simpson was so bad that I had to go back and rewrite him completely because the series is written to be (mostly) light and he wasn’t light in any way. Suffice it to say that had I kept him as he was there would be no Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human.

After my family member’s death, I was told by a fellow author to WRITE. Even if it was the worst stuff I’ve ever written and would never been seen by anybody but me… just write. And my best friend, who I’ll go to my grave being thankful for, agreed. Anything that would help me through it, you know? Writing has always been my therapy but I didn’t think it would work this time. Strangely, it did. Days after the funeral I again pulled up the manuscript for ‘Blake’. I expected to have the same, “Here we go again.. ugh!” attitude that had plagued me for months over the story. That didn’t happen. I reread the first 10,000 words and started writing and didn’t stop. I wrote so much that by the time 3 or 4 days had passed I had written over 30,000 new words and typed THE END. Not just typed those two words, but was very happy with what I’d written. The final word count is close to 42,000 words. I’ve had what I call my crazy writing frenzies in the past where I’ve written one short story after another over a period of days. What I’ve not ever done is what I did with Blake and Seth’s story. As messed up as my mind was over the death in my family, things still clicked with these guys that hadn’t in the months prior. The story was coming together so quick I couldn’t type the words fast enough.

grief-one-day-at-a-timeI honestly don’t know how I was able to string two sentences together, much less write as much as I did during those few days. I’m not complaining. This world saved me in a way I never could’ve anticipated and I’ll forever be grateful for it. I hope you all enjoy the story. It has the silly moments you’ve learned to expect from Willy and the others, but there are also a few serious ones as well. I started the story wondering how on Earth I’d be able to redeem Blake and ended up loving him before it was over. I hope you all feel the same.

Dealing with another loss is a day by day thing. Maybe someday I’ll devote more to that on here but I’m just not able to right now.

The rest of 2016 –

In the past I’ve blogged about updates of other stories. Some are even completed and really close to being published. However, in the coming weeks I will only be focusing on Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human. My apologies to those who are waiting on specific stories I’ve blogged about (Finding Alex, for one) but I’m simply not in the right frame of mind at this point to devote to those releases. That may change in the coming weeks. If so, I’ll let you know. I hope you understand. It’s not completing the stories. I think I could do that without a problem at this point. It’s everything that goes into getting a book ready to publish – editing, covers (that I personally create), and lots of other things that go on in the background.

300-x-450-blake-coverIf you’ve followed me to this point you know that I’m not really one to get too personal publicly. I try to keep things light as much as I can. I’m hoping I’m providing ‘light’ in Blake and Seth’s story. I’m so damn proud of these guys and there are no words for how much I adore Blake now. The story could bomb with readers (though I REALLY hope it doesn’t) and that wouldn’t take away how thankful I am for their story… and them helping me to get through a very difficult time in my life. And to add to that? Installment #4 has already had 6,000 words written. That’s over a year in advance to those who are counting. 🙂 There’s something about that crazy world that’s good for me at the moment and I’m going to run with it while I can.

In Closing –

I’m good. Really! My best friend and family won’t let me have down moments for long and I’m not one to sit and dwell if I’m able to focus on other things.  A lot of you have been with me from the very beginning so I felt you should know a little about what’s been happening behind the scenes over the past few months.

I’ve said this before but again it bears repeating – thank you to every person who has asked for more of my warped Christmas world. You embraced my kooky version of Santa and his wife (and the others) and there are no words for how much that means to me.

For the blurb, pre-order links, and more information about Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human, you can check out my last blog post here. The official release date is November 1st. Thank you to all who’ve already pre-ordered it. You guys rock! 🙂

And to those who have an ARC of the story – yes, it’s okay to publish your reviews before the release date. I’ve already gotten one amazing one that you can find here.  I just ask that you please not give away Seth’s secret or other spoilers. The secret may not be that big of a deal to some in the grand scheme of things but it plays a bit part in pretty much everything that happens in the story in regards to him and Blake.

Until next time,

Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human Has Been Released!

295-x-158-blake-new-release-featured

Hello, all.

I’m happy to announce that the 3rd installment of the Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer series is now available at all the major e-tailers! The title is Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human. If you read #2 in the series, Evan the Virgin Reindeer & His Sexy Buck, you’re already familiar with one of the main characters in the new story, Blake Simpson. Blake was a very bad man, um, reindeer in that one. He did everything in his power to destroy not only Christmas, but poor virginal Evan Vickers as well. This is my crazy version of the North Pole so of course all worked out well in the end for Reindeer Evan. He got his sexy reindeer and they’re now living happily ever after. For Blake, not so much.

Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human picks up eleven and a half months after everything went down last Christmas. It’s now the middle of December and Blake is given a chance by the Chief Reindeer to make amends for some of his past wrongs. The problem? He’ll have to babysit a special guest of Santa’s at the North Pole during the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. Not just any guest, but a human. You see, Blake’s not fond of them. Humans, I mean, but a deal is a deal so he’ll do what Chief Randy asked him to do. When he meets the human, Seth Grant, things take an odd turn. These two guys have met before and, boy oh boy, it didn’t end well. 🙂

So, what to expect in this story? Lots of Elf Willy and Randy, a bit of drama as Blake is forced to face those he wronged last year, and – because this is a ‘Willy’ story – a bit of silliness and humor that only comes from being inside Willy’s world. All the other players from the first two books, not just Willy and Randy, are all here in their glory as well.

As for Seth Grant, aka the human, he’s probably one of my favorite characters ever. He’s adorable. Don’t take that to mean he’s a pushover for Blake. He most definitely is not. He gives as good as he gets. He was also based on the person who pushed me to write the story, fellow author, Devon McCormack. I changed a few details but the similarities will still be pretty obvious to those who know Devon. I hope you’ll all like Seth as much as I do.

I hope you’ll check it out!

I also have to send a huge shout out to every single person who has read this series up to now. ‘Willy’ wasn’t written to be the first in a series but I was asked by several readers to revisit the North Pole and give new characters their stories. There’s no greater compliment to an author than when they’re asked for more, so thank you! I look forward to revisiting this world every year and it’s all because of you, the readers of the books, who allow me to keep going in a series that wasn’t supposed to be a series.

Until next time,

~Candi Kay

300-x-450-blake-coverBlurb

From the world of Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer.

The North Pole isn’t exactly as it appears in fairy tales. It has the elves and Santa and his reindeer, but Santa and Mrs. Claus aren’t the jolly couple the world believes them to be. Far from it, actually. The reindeer are all shape-shifters who transform into gorgeous beings in human form and are respected by all.

Except Reindeer Blake Simpson, that is. Sure, he’s beautiful like the others, but all respect for him flew off with the snowflakes last Christmas. When the Chief Reindeer offers him a chance to redeem himself he jumps on it without hesitation. All he has to do is keep a special visitor occupied leading up to the busiest night of the year.

For the first time in history, an outsider will be allowed inside the North Pole. Not just any outsider, but a human and Blake Simpson has never been fond of them. But a deal is a deal. He’ll babysit the man and then get on with his life, now free of what caused him to self-destruct last year. When he meets Seth Grant sparks fly, and not just the good kind. Not only is he a human but he’s a cocky one who Blake has met before.

Sometimes the magic of the North Pole has a sense of humor. Could the rogue reindeer and cocky human actually be meant for each other? Or will they be over before they start as secrets of Blake’s past are revealed?
