Merry Christmas!

To all who celebrate, I hope you have an amazing Christmas!

Thank you to everyone who has continued to embrace the Willy the Kinky Elf series. The reviews for Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate have blown me away. I can’t express how much it means to me that you guys are enjoying the series. A lot of readers don’t like authors commenting on reviews or I would’ve thanked you all individually. I respect that. Just know that I’ve read them all and they mean more to me than you can know. To those just now starting the series, I hope you enjoy my crazy version of the North Pole. To those who have stuck with me since Willy #1, you guys rock.

I hope your holiday is nice and that there are no stressful moments with family members. Been there, done that. ๐Ÿ™‚ We’ll have lunch with my husband’s family and then a small get together at my house later. After, I’ll spend a nice evening with my husband. I’m looking forward to it.

I’ll pop back in soon with my end of the year post.

Side note: My website went a little nuts a few days ago and kinda screwed up a couple of the site’s plugins. If you subscribed to email alerts after around November 15th and wasn’t confirmed, can you let me know? I appreciate it.

Happy Holidays!

ReindeerSecrets.com, Crazy Christmas Story Giveaway, Willy, #6

ReindeerSecrets.com

ReindeerSecrets.com has a new home at WordPress. The Blogger site gave me fits from the minute it was created. I’d get one thing right and then something else would screw up with the html. Photos on the homepage would go from being straight and nice looking to being all over the place. I know enough about html to know I was doing it correctly so I couldn’t figure out what the deal was. I found out later that I wasn’t the only one having issues with it.

The new site is up and running. It’s obvious that I used the same theme that I used for this particular site because a lot of it looks similar. The main difference between that one and the Candi Kay one is that RS is strictly for Willy’s stuff and all things Christmas.

There will be all kinds of Willy things happening in the coming weeks. You can easily subscribe to email newsletters in the box on the bottom right of every page or post for updates.

Crazy Christmas Story Giveaway & Willy the Kinky Elf #6 Update

I want to hear your craziest Christmas story. I don’t care if it’s real or if it comes strictly from your imagination. The crazier the better. Whoever gives me the best story will get one of Willy’s ‘Santa is a butt head!’ magnets, an e-book of their choice from my catalog (it doesn’t have to be from Willy’s World), plus an advanced copy of book #6 in the series (Luke the rent boy’s story) when it’s available. If the story is good enough, and if the winner allows it, I’ll let Willy tell the story in next year’s Willy the Kinky Elf installment. The winner will be credited not just in the front of the book but by Willy himself. It’ll also be posted on ReindeerSecrets.com and shared all over my social media platforms.

Think drunk uncles, insane in-laws, or pretty much anything you want to tell.

Everybody gets so stressed out during the holidays. A little humor goes a long way in taking some of that stress away, as Willy himself has tried to prove since his book came out in 2014.

Shoot me an email with your story to candikayauthor@gmail.com, at reindeersecrets@gmail.com, or via a Goodreads or Facebook message. You can send it via Twitter direct message, but fair warning – I’m not a big fan of Twitter DMs. I get so much unsolicited stuff sent to me on there I ignore it more than check it.

I’d originally said you could post the story on here, but honestly, I’d prefer them not be public until the winner is chosen.

Give it your best shot and the crazier the better.

Note that this giveaway was also posted here on Reindeer Secrets.

Check out the site if you get a minute. I’ve already listed info about next year’s ‘Willy’ installment. It’ll be updated throughout the year as the story is written. You can go directly to that page by clicking here. And guess what? I have a title! I know, right? I usually leave it until right before the book goes up for pre-order. Not this time. As soon Luke’s love interest popped in my head I had the title down. I won’t be announcing it for awhile yet but at least I can play around with covers earlier than normal.

I hope you’re all doing well. I’m riding high on an SEC Championship. My apologies to my Twitter followers who were inundated with tweets during the game. ๐Ÿ˜‰ #RollTide!

Thanks again to everyone who’s read Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate.

Until next time,

Candi

Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer, Crazy Christmas Story Giveaway, This and That

Hello, all.

I’ve been lacking on the blog posts lately. But that’s really nothing new, right? So of course when I take the time to do one it’s long. Sorry in advance!

FYI – the guy in the motorcycle pics below was my original inspiration for Randy the Chief Reindeer. I’ve shared the inspiration for Dylan and Cole (and a few of the others) but not Randy. This is the guy I see every single time I mention Randy in one of the books. The 2nd photo is actually what had me creating the character.

Winner & Crazy Christmas Story Giveaway

Congrats to AnnMarie who won my giveaway to celebrate On Top Down Under 6th’s anniversary! She chose Barry the Lonely Reindeer & His Bashful Elf as her winning book but Willy thought she should also have Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate. ๐Ÿ™‚ She also won one of Willy’s ‘Santa is a butt head!’ magnets.

Congrats again to On Top Down Under Book Reviews, and thank you for the support given to me over the years.

I have one of the (above) magnets left. Whoever tells me the craziest Christmas story can have it. I want the good stuff – crazy relatives tripping over the tree, a drunken uncle – the crazier the better. If you don’t have a real story, make one up. Hey, I make up goofy Christmas stories all the time, so why the heck not? *grin* If the story is good enough, I’ll throw in an e-book of your choice from my catalog and I may even have Willy telling the story in next year’s installment – with the winner’s permission, of course.

Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate

I can’t express how appreciative I am over the feedback I’ve received so far about Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate. I always worry that maybe I’ve gone too far (re: Willy the elf) or maybe not far enough (there wasn’t as much Willy the elf in last year’s installment). Each book will continue to have new main characters and new love interests, but Willy will forever be a big part of each one because it’s his series. He started it all and he’s always going to butt into the business of all new players. I’ve received messages saying that he’s the most annoying character in the history of the world. And I’ve received messages saying he’s a favorite character. Regardless of which side you’re on, Willy has a good heart and only wants to help others maybe have what he and Chief Reindeer Randy have. If it takes a little Peppermint Whiskey and perviness, what of it? This is our Willy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This year I did something I’d never done before. I wrote two specific scenes out of order to add to the final manuscript later. One of those scenes was a jewelry store scene with Willy. That was written before anything else. I knew how I wanted Dylan and Cole to officially meet and that was it. The other scene was what I’ve always referred to (to my editor) as the ‘Santa reveal scene’. That particular scene gave me the most trouble. It decided everything, as in how Dylan’s past family issues would be resolved. I admit to being concerned over how readers might feel about the direction the story had gone. I’m not giving away spoilers (and I hope others don’t either) but I wonder (still) what the reaction will be with me making jerky Santa Claus a somewhat decent guy. Not great, mind you, as Santa has always had an agenda. How it played out wasn’t even remotely what I had in mind when I started writing the story. Let’s just say that when I tried to write it the original way, Santa had other ideas and wouldn’t allow it. Other authors know exactly what I mean when I say the story took on a life of its own.

I’ve been asked by more than one reader to give Santa his own story, especially after what comes to light in ‘Dylan’. Time will tell on that, I suppose. With the series being gay romance, his mate (if the fates allow him to have one) will be a male. We know he’s played around a bit with more than one guy. Remember Seth and Blake’s story? I know exactly how Santa’s story would play out, including Mrs. Claus’ role in it, but I think he needs another year or two of showing the world he’s not a complete tool (lol) before I attempt it. If I attempt it. There’s also some unfinished business between him and Dylan. Again, no spoilers, but ifย  you read the final chapter of Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate you know exactly what I’m referring to.

Thank you again to everyone who has read not just ‘Dylan’ but the whole series up to now. I read all the reviews and all the private messages. As I’ve said many times over the years, I don’t get upset or angry over bad reviews. I’ve read my share of bad books and I damn sure don’t expect everybody to enjoy all of mine. But it really makes me feel special when somebody takes the time (whether it’s publicly or privately) to let me know how they feel about something I’ve written. I couldn’t describe that feeling if I tried.

I could’ve stopped writing in this world years ago and been content because I was proud of what I’d created. But when somebody tells me they’re excited over the next installment or sends me an email asking who the next main characters will be, that makes me want to go back into that world and keep writing. When I published my first story (Taking Lance) I didn’t think 5 people would read it or anything else I’d written. So when a reader tells me that they look forward to the next book in the Willy series every year, it truly gets to me. Really, thank you.

Oh, and be on the look out for a Randy and Willy sex scene. I’m almost done writing it and will put it up here and possibly on ReindeerSecrets.com as a freebie. I’ve been asked by more than one reader to show them getting down and dirty again. Who am I to say no? *snort*

Speaking of…. ReindeerSecrets.com is giving me fits with the html and has been for awhile. Because of this, I’ve not updated the site in quite some time. I was hoping to stick with Blogger but I may have to move it over to Word Press. At least if WP gives me problems, I know how to fix it. With Blogger, I’m at the mercy of Google.

This and That

I have been traveling all over the place. I’ve seriously only been home 8 days total in the past 8 or 9 weeks. I’m home now, thank goodness, but it’s been crazy. From Alabama to Colorado, to Savannah, home for 5 days, then back to Colorado and home again. I’ve been here for 3 days this time. All the traveling is in a car so we’ve been allowed to see a lot of the country. It’s been nice, but damn, I’m glad to be home. My husband will be leaving for Boston the Monday after Thanksgiving. I love traveling up there but he’ll be doing this one without me. I have to prepare for Christmas. Well, and I need a break. I’ve loved my time with him, and I normally wouldn’t say no to a road trip, but I’m physically and mentally exhausted. I need some ME time. All the editing and publishing, etc. for ‘Dylan’ was done while on the road. It was a challenge, to say the least.

Thanksgiving

To the Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you enjoy it with your family and friends. No doubt lots of food will be eaten and lots of football watched. Enjoy your holiday and try to ignore any and all overbearing family members. I’m actually not stressing the holiday that much. For the first time ever, I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do and I won’t be bullied to change up my plans to suit others. It’s a good feeling, to be honest. I’m even looking forward to Christmas when normally I’m dreading it. Not the holiday, mind you, but things I’ve always been forced to do. Not this year. This year it’s about my husband, sons and their significant others, and friends of theirs who usually stop by. I’m actually looking forward to it. I don’t remember a time in my life I’ve been able to say that and really mean it. I’ve looked forward to holidays but I’ve always had the other things going on that cut into my enjoyment.

Quick Note About NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

Every November I get a ton of messages asking if I’m participating in NaNoWriMo. The answer has always been no. I think it’s an awesome challenge. It’s just not for me because November the 1st is the day my final book of the year is always published. Leading up to November 1st my stress levels are through the roof as I prepare to have the story ready (editing, etc.). November 1st is the day I’m finally able to relax. I just can’t see me going from that to a monthly challenge that requires so much – not after I publish the latest Willy installment. I love seeing everybody’s progress with NaNoWriMo. Congrats to everyone who has taken it on. I’ll always cheer for you on the sidelines, even if I don’t participate. Maybe when the Willy series ends I’ll try. Until, then, I’m going to have to keep saying no.

Taking Lance Series is Now In Kindle Unlimited

This was actually done awhile back. The entire Taking Lance series is now in Kindle Unlimited, including Taking Lance (The Complete Series), a new edition that has all the books (and shorts) in one book. If you’ve been on the fence about reading the series, and you’re enrolled in KU, this is the best time to check it out. I hated pulling the books from other e-tailers but (as I’ve mentioned in the past), every other site had removed Book 1, leaving all the others. The only way to have the complete series up was to go exclusive to Amazon. I’m not a fan of the exclusivity, but this seemed to be my best option going forward.

The series is complete so unless I decide later to write a sex scene or two with Rick and Lance, you can get them all without missing anything.

Paperbacks, Possible Audio Books

All books that will be sold as paperbacks have been reformatted and will go back up for publication in the coming days. I want all the Willy paperbacks available before December. In 2019, I plan to get that particular series done in audio book format as well. I’ve held off until now but I believe it’s long past time. I’ve been asked for the audio books but have simply not had the time to do the research. These will be my first audio books so bear with me. I’ve also been approached about making them into graphic novels. That’s something I’ll have to think more on. I know absolutely zero about that so I’m not sure when or if that will happen.

I hope you’re all doing well. Thank you again to everybody who has read Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate. I love how you guys enjoy my crazy world. Thank you for giving me the encouragement to keep going with it.

Until next time,

~Candi Kay

New Release! Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate

Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate has officially been released into the world. I’ve got a huge soft spot for Dylan the bad boy. ๐Ÿ™‚ Willy is as silly and pervy as he’s always been – maybe a little more so this year. Randy is the most patient reindeer in existence. Cole is a sweetheart. All the other players from previous books make appearances – some more than others. Santa is a lot more mellow this go ’round, where Mrs. Claus takes her bitchiness to a whole new level. There are some things she may not be able to come back from.

I hope you enjoy the story. If you check it out I hope you’ll pop back on and let me know what you think.

From the world of Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer.

The North Pole isn’t exactly as it appears in fairy tales. It has the elves and Santa and his reindeer, but Santa and Mrs. Claus aren’t the jolly couple the world believes them to be. Far from it, actually. The reindeer are all shape-shifters who transform into gorgeous beings in human form and are respected by all.

Reindeer Dylan is the ultimate bad boy – wearing leather, riding a motorcycle, having sex anytime he wants. Forced to run away as a teen, heโ€™s had to fight for survival. Now twenty-five, Dylan lives in Mistletoe Hill, the one place in the North Pole that’s not eggnog and sugar cookies.

When Santa’s wife promises to share information about Dylan’s long-missing mother, he reluctantly escorts her to the annual Christmas party to make Santa jealous. What he doesn’t expect is to see a reindeer who’ll have him wanting something he’s never wanted before. Scared of what he’s feeling, he leaves, not even knowing the reindeer’s name.

Cole Crawford is one of the North Pole’s most respected citizens. Not one for random hookups, when he locks eyes with Mrs. Claus’ date at the party, he’s convinced he’s found his mate. But then the reindeer bolts, leaving Cole wondering if he’ll ever see him again.

When Mrs. Claus breaks her promise, Dylan contacts the Chief Reindeer and his elf for help locating his mother. Unfortunately, there are powerful people who’ll stop at nothing to ensure that certain secrets stay buried. Elf Willy just wants to play matchmaker and drink his Peppermint Whiskey. After witnessing the look between Dylan and Cole last Christmas, he makes it his elfly duty to bring them together.

Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate (Willy the Kinky Elf, #5) – Now Available for Pre-Order!

Now available for pre-order.

It’s almost Willy the kinky elf time again. Of course, Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His Virtuous Mate is Dylan Davies and Cole Crawford’s story, but you know Willy. He’s insisting on being the center of attention – at least for a little while.

If you’ve read the series to now, you saw the hot reindeer (that would be Dylan) who escorted Mrs. Claus to last year’s Christmas party to make her hubby jealous. I think it was obvious to everybody in attendance that he most definitely didn’t want to be there. What you didn’t see was what happened after Santa and Mrs. Claus left the event. Dylan was in the process of sneaking out of the tent when he felt the intense feeling of being watched, and not just by the townspeople. After scanning the room, he made eye contact with another reindeer that almost had him making a fool of himself in front of all those people. Scared of what he was feeling, he bolted, not even knowing the reindeer’s name.

That other reindeer would be Cole Crawford, of course. ๐Ÿ™‚

In this installment you’ll see a much milder Santa Claus. As for his wife, well, you think she’s done bad things in the past? None of that can compare to what she’s been caught doing this time. Honestly, it’s something she may not be able to come back from. There are a lot of secrets that could destroy everything she knows if they come out.

You’ve seen the photo that was the inspiration for Dylan’s character (above, right). I’ve put that pic up on several blog posts. Above left is my Cole. The funny thing is that I’d never seen this guy before until long after I’d completed the book. My friend sent me the photo and I knew the minute I looked at it that it was Cole. Isn’t he gorgeous? I couldn’t have found a better photo for him. His real name is Sergio Carvajal, as I discovered after extensive ‘research’. Yeah, we’ll go with research. *snort*

Note that as of now the book is only available for pre-order on Amazon. In the past when I put books up for pre-order on the other sites too much was shown in the previews before the publication date. I don’t like anybody seeing my dedication/shout out page until the day the book is actually published, which will be on November 1st like the others.

The pre-order link is here. Amazon is saying it’s 171 Kindle pages. That may or may not change before publication. The book is still in editing.

Willy the Kinky Elf, #5 – Title Help

Hi, all.

I typed my two favorite words on Willy, #5 – THE END. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve made quite a few changes since and likely will continue to until the day it goes live on Amazon. More good news is that I accidentally found the perfect cover art and purchased it for the cover. I never have that done until much later in the year. I’m still having a problem with the title, though.

Dylan the Bad Boy Reindeer & His ______ Mate

Cole is his mate.

Cole, unlike Dylan, had an almost perfect childhood with almost perfect parents. He graduated 2nd in his class and is very successful. He’s never been in trouble a day in his life. He’s very respected in the North Pole.

He wears slacks and dress shirts, drives a sensible car, and is an all around good guy.

Dylan, on the other hand, suffered abuse at the hands of his father until he had enough at 16 and ran away. Now 25, he’s not ashamed of anything he did to survive. He did what he had to do and he did it in the one place Santa isn’t allowed – Mistletoe Hill. If you’ve read the first 4 books in the series you’re already familiar with the place. It’s bad news. But Dylan took a bad situation and turned it into what would be considered success.

He wears leather, drives a motorcycle, and is an all around bad boy. Good hearted and a good man, but likes getting down and dirty. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That was the description of the characters. Now I need help describing Cole in the title. It’s obviously a bad boy/good boy story but I think ‘good boy’ sounds too young, maybe?

Below are some words I have so far –

Straight-laced

Respectable

Reputable

Virtuous

Upstanding

Good Guy

Good Boy

Grr! (<— That’s me growling, not part of the list…. lol)

I’m open to suggestions. I can’t work on the cover until I have the finalized title. If there’s something on my list you think would sound right – it must be in line with the other titles in the series – please let me know. If you have another suggestion (not on the list), even better.

If you’ve followed the series to now you know what I’m looking for, I believe.

I’m pulling my hair out over this and my hubby really loves my long hair. *snort* I’m too close to it and what sounds right to me might sound ridiculous to you guys.

(… says the girl who wrote a book called Willy the Kinky Elf & His Bad-Ass Reindeer …)

Suggestions? Please don’t hesitate to leave a comment on here, on Goodreads, or any of my social media accounts. If you’d prefer, shoot me an email at candikayauthor@gmail.com.

The sooner I can get the title finalized the sooner I can work on finalizing the cover, story, and blurb. If I use your suggestion, I’ll send you an advanced copy weeks before it goes live. If more than one person suggests the word I end up choosing, each one will get an ARC.

Note that Cole is NOT a virgin or innocent. If he was, the title would be easy. The reason I’m throwing that out there is because someone asked if it was a bad boy/virgin story.

Hmm… not a bad idea for a future story.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

~Candi

P.S. There are 3 on the list above that I’m actually considering. I just want suggestions from others before I officially make any kind of decision. Who knows? Maybe the readers will pick 1 of the 3 as their fave.

Cocky! & A Few Quickie Updates

I’ve not posted in awhile so I wanted to pop in real quick before things get crazy in my life again.

4th Anniversary Giveaway

Congrats to Kelsy Kasey for winning my 4th publishing anniversary giveaway. She chose Eros, Christopher, Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human, and Just Friends as her winning books.

Finding Alex (Taking Lance, #4)

Finding Alex, that I swore I was about to publish, is still in draft on Amazon. I had a death in my family and have been unable to go back into it.ย  It’s complete. It’s just waiting on me to hit publish.

Willy, #5ย

Willy the Kinky Elf #5 is a chapter or so from being done. It’s still untitled. I’ve been trying to come up with a title but I’ve had no luck so far. I really want it finalized so I can start working on the blurb and cover. I may be open to suggestions in the coming days or weeks if I don’t come up with one on my own. Two reindeer. One’s a ‘bad boy’ and the other is about as straight-laced as they come. Outside of the bedroom anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Certain things come out that make everything Mrs. Claus has done to this point seem tame. Santa, on the other hand, has mellowed quite a bit. You’ll actually see his softer side in the latest installment. I’ve considered toning down some of Mrs. Claus’ antics. They’re pretty bad. I’ll see how I feel when I get closer to publication. Both Mr. and Mrs. Claus have secrets that come to light when Dylan (aka the bad boy) comes back into town.

COCKY!

Speaking of Willy’s World, I’m sure you’ve seen all the stuff about the word COCKY being trademarked recently. If not, Google it. What’s a guaranteed way to lose fans and all respect from other authors? Do what this author did. Willy, being as outspoken as he is, has decided that he wants to share his views on the whole cocky thing. We know that Willy is a naughty little elf and, well, it’s been awhile since he and Randy got naughty on-page. He’s got a lot to say about the cocky situation. ๐Ÿ˜‰ If I finish the story it’ll be a quickie and won’t take place during the holidays. I’ll update on that soon.

I kinda joke about it but I actually have a title with the word COCKY in it, Blake the Rogue Reindeer & His Cocky Human. It was published November 1st, 2016 – long before the trademark was issued. Should I be concerned? I don’t know really. The more I see on the whole situation the more baffled I get. I guess the number one question I have is why was a word – that’s been used tens of thousands of times in books and titles – allowed to be trademarked? It’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve seen since I started publishing my books and I’ve seen some really ‘out there’ stuff. The author put a video out supposedly in defense of what she did. Instead of helping her cause it made her look like she was calling her readers stupid and she even went so far as to imply that stupid equals autism. The last part especially angered me, but that’s another blog post.

Enough about that.

Mother’s Day & Other

I think that’s it for now. I mentioned there being a death in my family. Honestly, I’m exhausted both mentally and physically. I need a few days to regroup. The weekend will be crazy busy with Mother’s Day and other plans and then some family members will be graduating from high school next week. Hopefully afterward I can take a much needed break for me. I’ve been going nonstop for the past week or so.

If you are a mom I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day. If not, I hope you have an amazing weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time,

Quickie ‘Willy #5’ Excerpt

First things first…

I’ve never screamed so loud during a football game and Alabama has had a lot that came down to the final play. It’s a good thing I have a strong heart. Good Lord, that was one hell of a game.

Until next year. ๐Ÿ™‚

#RollTide #NationalChampions #17

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, how about a quickie Willy scene from (still untitled) Willy #5?

To set the scene, Dylan (the MC of the story) has asked Randy to come see him in Mistletoe Hill because he needs help with something. Dylan and Randy go way back but this is the first time Dylan’s ever met Willy the elf. Note that this is unedited and the wording will likely change a little before the book is published in early November.

If you read Barry the Lonely Reindeer & His Bashful Elf, you’ll remember Dylan as being Mrs. Claus’ date (though I use that word lightly) at the annual Christmas party.

I let go of Randy’s hand and reach over and shake Willy’s much smaller one.

โ€œNice to finally meet you, Willy.โ€

โ€œYou have sex with that haggy ho?โ€ he asks without preamble.

โ€œWilly,โ€ Randy hisses.

The elf looks up at him with his hands on his hips.

โ€œWhat? He was her date, wasn’t he?โ€

โ€œUh, no. I did not have sex with that, what was it you called her?โ€ I respond, trying hard not to laugh.

โ€œHaggy ho. She’s an old hag and she’s a ho. Haggy Ho.โ€

โ€œWhat Willy is trying to say,โ€ Randy interjects, calling my attention back to him, โ€œis that he’s run out of mean names to call her so he’s making them up as he goes along now.โ€

โ€œPfft! There’s an endless list of names to call her. This just happens to be my latest one.โ€ He looks closely at me. โ€œYou didn’t have sex with her?โ€

โ€œI most definitely did not. I was only there for reasons I’d hoped to talk to Randy about.โ€

โ€œGood enough. You’d have caught a disease or something so that was smart on your part, though being seen with the bitch surely didn’t win you any favors.โ€

I take a step back when Willy tries to stand on his knees on the high stool and look over the bar. Randy barely catches him before he takes a tumble to the hardwood.

โ€œWhat are you doing, elf?โ€ Randy asks, sounding exasperated and humored at the same time.

Willy motions up and down my body.

โ€œI see the front. I want to see if the rear is as nice to look at. I thought it would be rude to ask him to turn around. Well, I saw his rear at the Christmas party but he was wearing a suit. Asses look hotter in jeans and, well, Dylan’s wearing tight ones and-โ€

โ€œWilly.โ€

He looks up at his reindeer.

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œStop making the man uncomfortable. Not to mention that you shouldn’t be telling total strangers that you want to see their butts. It could get you arrested or worse.โ€

Willy’s eyes go to slits before he turns back to the bar with a pout.

โ€œI was just curious is all,โ€ he says softly, his little elf lip poking out. โ€œThere ain’t nothin’ wrong with wanting to look at nice things.โ€

So, as you see Willy’s still his pervy little elf self. I wrote a little on the story while I was out of town. I was literally in bed with the flu when Willy started ‘talking to me’. That’s the way it always works. The story slams into me at the worst possible time. Thankfully, I jotted down some notes and was able to write some when I started feeling a little better. I’m really hoping to get this particular story written early in the year so I have the rest of the year to clean it up. But then again, I’ve said that with the past three stories too and we see how that worked out. *snort*

I’m home now but I really wish I was back out of town with my husband. That’s the longest I’ve ever been away (4 weeks). Normally I’m the worst about planning everything down to the final detail. I don’t do last minute – ever – and when I go on a trip I have to plan it WAY in advance. With this trip, I just went with the flow. It was really nice. I wouldn’t have left when I did if I wouldn’t have had to. I needed to come home and start being a responsible adult again, even if I really didn’t want to. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for now. I’m going to try to do more posts in 2018 than in years past. There will be excerpts, quotes, and even a giveaway or two. Next week I may add an excerpt from Finding Alex, that I promise will be published soon. It’s long been finished. Maybe I’ll even add the cover and blurb. I don’t think I’ve done that yet.

If there’s anything else you guys want to see let me know. I’m determined not to disappear so much in 2018. I can’t thank you all enough for sticking with me.

I hope everybody is doing well.

Until next time,

Candi

So Long, 2017! Looking Ahead, Personal Stuff

I know it’s not a very good idea to basically disappear shortly after a book release. I’ve been around. I’ve just not typed a blog post. I’ve read every email, Goodreads message, and Facebook message I’ve received and I’m almost 100% sure that I’ve responded to them all.

With this being an end of the year/start of a new one post, I’ll say this…. I was very happy to see 2017 end.

I’ll start with the good stuff first and then get to why 2017 couldn’t get behind me fast enough.

Professionally, 2017 was the best year I’ve had since I published my first book in April of 2014. Willy’s World is still going strong and I’m still receiving messages asking what’s coming up in future installments. 4 books published so far in that crazy world and you guys still want more? That’s the greatest compliment an author can receive. But it wasn’t just the Willy books. New readers have discovered my others, even those published almost 4 years ago. I can’t express how that makes me feel. I’m living my dream and it’s all because of you guys. There are no words for how much I appreciate every single one of you.

I only published 3 books in 2017 – Just Friends, Marrying Lance, and Barry the Lonely Reindeer & His Bashful Elf – so I didn’t complete my publishing goals that I made in 2016. Trust me, it wasn’t from lack of want. The ones I promised are all written but I’ve not completed the editing of any of them and that takes a lot of time.

Which leads me to the not-so-great stuff that happened in 2017.

Personally, it was one of the most stressful years I’ve ever had. I try not to get too personal on here and I’m funny about doing it now. I hope you’ll bear with me for a minute.

I’ve been forced to be somewhat of a caretaker for the person I hold solely responsible for the deaths of my two sisters. I’ve had to deal with medical emergencies, moving her from one facility to another (by myself), and forced to listen to the same criticisms that indirectly caused my sisters’ problems. Not once has there been a thank you. It’s my so-called duty, you see. The stress of all of this caused some pretty bad health problems for me. Even knowing this, I was called selfish because I chose to take care of myself and not be at this person’s beck and call 24/7.

The difference between my sisters and me is that I’m quite outspoken where they weren’t, though there’s no reasoning with this person. She’ll go to her grave convinced she’s never done a bad thing in her life. Another thing is that I have a very supportive husband who won’t allow me to fall into what my sisters did.

Physically, I’m doing much better than I was a year ago. I hate taking medications but I’m being a good girl and doing what the doctor tells me to do.

Enough of that and my apologies for going on about it.

The Holidays

So, how was everybody’s holiday season? For the first time in years I didn’t do the ‘having the whole family over’ thing on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I cooked a couple of things for my mother-in-law’s place and spent the holidays there with my husband and sons. I left just long enough to take my mother food and then I went back for more family time. It was so nice. Normally I’m stressed to the max but not this year. I left with my husband the day after Christmas to travel out of state. It was a two day drive and we had a blast on the way. I’ll be back home one day next week, I suppose, but he’ll stay for work. I spent New Year’s Eve and day with him and I’ll be with him on my birthday that’s coming up in a few days. Normally when I do this I’m antsy to get back home. Not this time. Too many ‘responsibilities’ waiting on me there. I’m trying to avoid them as long as I can.

Alabama Footballย

If you’ve followed me for any length of time you know I’m a die hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan. On January 1st we got our redemption against Clemson, who beat us in the final seconds of the national championship game last year. We take our football very seriously but we don’t hate Clemson. Their coach is a former ‘Bama boy who was on the 1992 championship team so we cut him some slack. ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, when we’re not playing against him anyway. Tonight we play Georgia in the national championship game. Hmm…. their coach? One of our former coordinators.

Gotta love it, right? We’re hated by all until somebody needs a coach. Then they come after ours. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m crossing my fingers for a win tonight. I’m not exactly in part of the country where Alabama football is embraced but I’m having a blast jokingly going back and forth with some of these folks.

Looking Ahead

I usually try to do a public summary of the books I hope to publish in the new year. I’m not doing that this time. When I do and am unable to get them published, I’m angry with myself and I feel like I’ve let the readers down. The past couple of years have been pretty rough outside of my writing. I don’t know what 2018 will bring. I do promise to keep you all informed of new and upcoming releases.

I’ve always said that I don’t make resolutions. I’ve always called them goals because my birthday is so soon after the start of the new year. They’re for the start of MY new year, not the new year itself. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete them this year – both professionally and personally.

Willy, #5

The 5th book in the Willy the Kinky Elf series has already been started and the story has been laid out in my head since before I finished writing ‘Barry’. No title or cover yet but I think the fans of the series will enjoy it. I hope so anyway. If all goes as planned, it will go up for pre-order in early October for release on November 1st.

Dylan and Cole are the main characters. You met both in ‘Barry’. I keep wanting to call Cole Ian because that was his original name. I have a feeling I’m going to regret changing it as I write the story. He looks more like an Ian to me than a Cole.

There will still be the silly humor from Willy and the others but the readers will finally get to see what really happens on Mistletoe Hill. You’ve read about the place in every installment and you know it’s supposedly bad news. Now you’ll see it first-hand.

There’s a reason Dylan was forced to be Mrs. Claus’ date at the Christmas party. You don’t know much about Cole other than he owns the jewelry store where Ricky’s dad beat up his ex and that he helped subdue the ex later on. Their stories will come out little by little but mostly Dylan’s as it will be told in his POV. He didn’t have a good life and on the outside he appears to be this strong, bad-ass. Inside, he’s anything but.

Dylan was not supposed to be. Mrs. Claus was going to have one of her little boy toys take her to the Christmas party so she could shove him in Santa’s face. I had no clue who the other MC (other than Cole) would be in book #5, figuring I’d figure it out as I wrote the story. The minute I wrote the scene with Mrs. Claus walking inside the tent for the party Dylan was born and he got stuck in my head. He was also originally a tall blond. See the guy on the right with the black hair? Yeah, as soon as I saw that photo everything I thought I knew about Dylan changed. THAT was him. My poor editor. I completely rewrote his description when I saw that pic. This was literally right before I hit publish on the pre-order. Thankfully she’s awesome and didn’t strangle me for it.

Those who’ve been with me for awhile already know this but my new readers may not – I have a thing for guys with black hair, preferably long black hair. Almostย every story I’ve published has a character with black hair. If you’ve not noticed it before, I bet you will now. ๐Ÿ™‚ I try to change it up sometimes but it’s kind of rare.

I’ll update on Dylan and Cole throughout the year.

Google Play

All of my books that are on Google Play are about to be removed unless I find another 3rd party site to publish them through. Pronoun, who put them there originally, is shutting down and I’m literally days from them being removed. I’ve barely had time to think lately but I’ll be trying to find a way to keep them on there. Google Play has been surprisingly successful in finding me new readers and it’s always nice having another outlet to sell the books.

Barnes & Noble

All my e-books are still off Barnes & Noble and there are no plans of putting them back on there. I’m saying that because I’ve been asked by a few people. I hate it but B&N removed a lot of my books without warning because of some so-called erotica sweep. Strangely, my best sellers on there were allowed to stay. Imagine that (sarcasm). They’re all off now. I know I’m losing a substantial amount of royalties by walking away completely but it’s not about that. It’s about these sites blindly deciding that certain books are a little too much for certain readers. Shouldn’t the readers be the ones to decide what’s too erotic and what’s not? What’s funny is that the books removed in their little erotica sweep were the least erotic books I’ve published.

Losses in 2017

We lost a lot of celebrities in 2017. Forgive me for not listing them all but the post is already long enough. I just knew I couldn’t end this without honoring Tom Petty and Chester Bennington.

Tom Petty was part of my teenage years and I will forever have good memories of listening to Damn the Torpedoes on repeat back in the day. I won’t say how far ‘back in the day’ is. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My then-boyfriend’s brother told me my music sucked (it didn’t… really!) so he gave me Damn The Torpedoes to show me what ‘real’ music was. I never looked back. The boyfriend didn’t last long after that, but I still have the tape that his big brother gave me. *grin*

Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. Chester’s death hit me the hardest. I fell in love with Tom Petty’s music years ago. My love for Chester’s came much later. I’d always loved Linkin Park but one song really took them higher for me. That song is Leave Out All The Rest, as I’ve blogged about before. Since his death, I’ve seen countless comments from fans about how his music saved them. I don’t know if I can say it saved me per se, but I can say that that one particular song helped get me through the death of my first sister. She loved it and always felt the words. I’ve said for years – even long before Chester died – that I’ll forever regret not having Leave Out All The Rest played at her funeral. It would’ve been perfect, but the ones the lyrics would’ve been aimed at wouldn’t have seen themselves in the words, sadly.

I have a hard time listening to Chester’s songs these days. Still too new, I suppose. I just know that I’ll forever be grateful for his words – his words that helped me in ways I could never express on here or anywhere else. I still listen to it over and over again on the anniversary of her death. That won’t ever change.

I hope Chester has finally found peace.

One More Light Foundation

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who has been with me since the very beginning. Thank you to my new readers. And thank you to my amazing family (that includes you and yours too, Karen) for supporting me and for understanding my need to disappear inside my fictional worlds on occasion. Writing is my therapy and while I didn’t publish more than 3 in 2017, I never stopped writing.

Keep sending me messages. I love hearing from readers.

Happy New Year! Here’s hoping for a phenomenal 2018!

….. and Roll Tide! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time,
